News Channel?

To remain not only neutral but at least a little bit critical should be the guiding principle for the media.
What is seen these days is a blatant violation of the principle.
And the English Media is guiltier of the same than the often degradingly referred to `Vernacular` media.
Similarly the Visual media (News Channels) is guiltier than the Print Media.
The Print Media, mainly news-papers are largely fair in both the news content and the OP-ED pages.
English News Channels like NDTV are becoming less and less of news channels and becoming more and more of a views channel.
The channels should restrict themselves to just reporting the news and should avoid giving the news a dressing up in the colors of theirs or theirs political masters preferences.
And this seems done in exchange for a few Padma awards and other such sops!
Why can’t these guys report an event as it is. If the need be, adjectives may be used to describe the quantity but not the quality of the parameters involved in the event.
There is no reason whatsoever why these guys should act as if they are some kind of a moral/political benchmark for the society as a whole and nobody has given them a right to speak on behalf of the society.
Let me explain with an example.
A bomb blast
Place, time and magnitude of the blast including the circumstances at the time may be mentioned.
Heres where the role of the news channel should end.
But no, they don’t stop there.
They go on merrily describing using words like `dastardly` and `cowardly`.
The perpetration might be dastardly or cowardly, but who are these news channels to say so.
Isn’t their business just to report?
It is the right of every citizen to interpret the event.
Another topic in the thick of things these days is whether so called `Parochialism` is a morally acceptable thing or not.
It’s not the business of these channels to decide whether an individual in general or a society in particular should or should not be Parochial.
The responsibility of choice and the consequences of the same rests with the individual and the society.
Their job stops at reporting the events.
So …NDTV and the like….Lay Off.
